Tenganan Pegeringsingan

Tenganan is one of an ancient villages in Bali, we called Bali Aga. The “Tenganan” name was taken from the migration of the villagers from the seaside to a rural area which is in the middle of the hills, the Bukit Kauh (western hill) and Bukit Kangin (eastern hill).

And the word Pegeringsingan is taken from the village most known product called Geringsing, a traditional woven product that can only be found in this village. This woven product is believed to have a magical power to away people from deceases.

The location of this village is in Manggis distric, about 65 km from Denpasar near Candidasa and can be reach using public or private vehicle. Facilities for visitors is well maintain e.g toilets, art shops, big parking area. Tenganan perform many religous activities that attract many tourist. Their main popular attractions is call Mekare-kare or the Perang Pandan, a ceremonial of a fight using thorny pandanous leaves as the weapon. This ceremony is used to be performed in the fifth month of Balinese calendar.
