Odalan (temple anniversary)
I recently live in Batu Belig, which is a modern village located at the west Denpasar. And it has been 10 years now. My home town is Negara, the village I was born called Yeh Embang, a little village close with mountain and sea. Negara is a little town located about 120 kilometers to the west of Denpasar.
Every six month or during the Galungan, I spent a day or two to attend my family temple anniversary. Visiting my village is always a fun, great trip, nice scenery, and meet my family (again). My family temple which is also where my grandfather lives located near the mountain, where most people lives in a very simple way.
Four days ago, I went to Negara (the capital town of West Bali) to attend the “Odalan (annniversary) of my family temple”. The ceremony begin from 11am starting with “Mecaru” mean to purify the temple from the negative force. The Mecaru ceremony includes sacrification of animal, usually duck or chicken with a certain color (commonly black or white). After finishing the Mecaru ceremonya all the family member gathered for praying, than the ceremony end after all the member drinks the holy water. Dining together after the praying with a special Balinese dishes was so special.
Those beautiful memories was captured some with my digital camera, but most were captured within my heart.
