Melasti or Mekiyis is the ceremony occur 3 days before the Nyepi day. All the villages in Bali on that day are busy preparing all the God Symbols to be clean (spiritually) in the ocean or spring water (lake or river), and pray together.

The Melasti event is really memorable, especially when the beach is far way from your village, then you have to walk to follow the Holy Symbols, it is like a parade, talk with friends along the way together with the gamelan, and people from kids, teenage, to elders keep on the track without feeling tired. And also who ever lives along the way without asking they will serve you with a fresh water on their front house close to the road, everyone can drink. But now time has change, not everybody go with their feet, some using their bike or car, it is sad really.

The same thing is happening in the tourism area such as Seminyak, Kuta, Legian, and Batu Belig (where I live now) from early morning people of the village are busy prepare the offering and gather in village Temple. If you go to your work at 9, you will get trap for hours, because village will block some road to let the villager walk to the beach freely.
