Bali Tiger

June 3rd, 2007 Posted by Dee

Do you know that this small island was also the home of Bali Tiger (Panthera tigris balica)? The poor tiger was one of three subspecies that already extinct. And the main reason why they extinct is so abvious, the human. This island is too small for us to share with those wild animal, so people started to shot, hunt and killed every animal that can harm us, including tigers.

I remember that my dad’s story long ago, that his grandfather had seen tiger foot print in his house backyard (my great grandfather lives near the forest). And that the forest in Bali in 1950 (in west Bali) was so virgin, lots of birds, anykind, monkeys, anykind of fish lives in the river, he sad they never hunger of foods, there was always some fish to eat, and easy to catch, and birds is in their backyards, they colorful. Oh, Bali was really the island of paradise, I imagine. And now after pestiside, and guns rules, the paradise lost its beauty, forest is not that green anymore, river is empty, only few of fish still survive.

Sorry … back to the tiger. The last Bali tiger is believe to be shot in 1925 (as in pic). And also tiger in other island, Java, is now extinct, last found in 1965. Now only the sumatra tiger still lives a few in the forest, but they are protected under Indonesian Government as endanger species.
