Ceremonies and annual temple anniversary in Bali occur according on Balinese calendar system, the saka year or twelve lunar months and a pawukon year of 210 days. The twelve lunar month calendar system or Sasih, each month begin on the day after a new moon (tilem), the full month is in the middle of each month.

One of my childhood favorite traditional entertainments was Wayang Kulit or Shadow Puppet Theater, and is Bali’s most complex sacred art form but yet also full of humor telling story and religious advice for the youth at the same time. It is a traditional medium of moral and spiritual instruction, but also wonderfully entertaining.

Every time you visit a temple in Bali, you will see this kind of building at the top of temple area (jeroan – read bali temple) and they look like Pagoda in Thailand. Well, it’s called Meru, Balinese pagoda made with black sugar-palm fiber roofs, a shrine to the higher deities.
