Pura Besakih ( east Bali)

August 31st, 2006 Posted by Dee

Perched nearly 1000 meters up the slope of the Mount Agung is Bali’s mother temple, Pura Besakih. This temple is the complex of 23 separated (but related) temples. The largest in the center is Pura Penataran Agung.

The panoramic view and mountain backdrop are so impressive, but when to visit must arrive early before the mist rool in (as shown on picture). For those who wants to know the map of Besakih complex see the second picture, in case you get lost inside ;) .

The usual way to visit Besakih is by minibus or bemo from Denpasar to Batubulan via Semarapura (Karangasem Regency).
